Hi,

Is it necessary to have a good background of EJB before getting into hibernate or is it could I get into it right away?

Hibernate does not require EJBs; it can be used with or without.

Indeed, you don't need EJBs at all. In fact, you don't even need a J2EE container. You can create and run Hibernate applications with nothing more than the JDK, the Hibernate core download from hibernate.org, and of course, a database with which you would connect.

Some Java skills, some knowledge of a database, and the ability to edit some XML files is all that's needed. EJBs need not apply.
