It's very sad to know this. But anyways, Cameron's main job here was to get the basics of Hibernate straight into any new comer. Hope his future releases would have a chapter on Hibernate's integration with Spring!

As I said, the real goal was to explain Hibernate, and help someone get up and running with Hibernate, and really, really, really help them understand how Hibernate works.

When you write a book, you want to cover everything, but trying to do so turns a book into a Swiss Army Knife on the topic - doing everything, but not doing anything particularly well. Plus, throwing in too many topics can really overwhelm the reader. We've all been in training classes where the instructor tries to cover way too much and everyone gets confused and frustrated. My goal is to eliminate that type of frustration by staying on topic and keeping the reader focussed. It's actually a very difficult thing to do as a writer, but I tried to stay very disciplined when doing this book, and from the feedback I've seen, people have been very appreciative.

Now, one thing I will say is that if you understand Hibnerate, using the Spring templates is very, very easy. What I tend to find is that people trying to integrate Hibernate into Spring do so without a good understanding of how Hibernate works. Then, when they run into problems, they have no idea how to address them, and they get frustrated.

I find that after reading my Hibernate book, and really understanding how Hibernate works, not just "how can I get Hibernate to do this" type of thinking, well, people run into very few problems integrating Hiberante into Spring, and when problems do come around, they can fix them very quickly. And that's the real value of the book, helping people really understand Hibernate, so they can use that strong foundation in the technology to help solve other issues that may arise elsewhere in their domain.

As a self-publisher, I've never figured out how to get my books into the hands of those living in the east. If anyone has any ideas on how to do that, I'd love to hear them. Probably not appropriate for this post. Feel free to start a thread on the topic in a different forum, or message me directly.

Sorry about that.
