I thought that I would pass along some Forum Etiquette.
As one of the many many members on Javaranch I try to answer questions when I can. I like to help out. That's why I am here. And in the process of answering questions I often check back on those threads to see if the member is getting his/her issue resolved. Many times after someone posts a reply offering some advice and often times spending personal (valuable) time researching a question/problem and trying their best to resolve it, the member asking the question gives no feedback, no reply, no response of any kind.
I think this is just rude. At the very least a simple "Thank you" is plenty. Other times I feel some helpful rancher deserves a little more praise. I try my hardest to let the person trying to help me know my progress based on their suggestions. Yes, I miss the occasional post here and there. But it's ususally few and far between.
So basically I am just suggesting that giving the person trying to help you a little feedback and/or a simple "thanks for your time" is just plain polite. It goes hand in hand with the "Be Nice" policy. Not to mention it increases your post count (for those that care about that sort of thing).

How about having Thanks as a part of my signature.

That would not be a spontaneous way to say thank you, and you'd still need to reply that your problem is solved anyway (which most people don't do).
But thanks for the suggestion anyway

Of course one could include "Thanks. Your answer solved my problem." into one's signature...
Thank you all for your suggestions. I have learnt a lot, thanks to you.

As much as possible I say "Thanks" coz it might also help me increase my chances of winning a book from a promo, hehe. Just kidding.
Thanks for reminding us!
