Normally, this is something I would start in the MO forum, but I thought that opening this up to our general users might be better.
The time has come to acquire a new server. Attempts were made to get a box from Sun or IBM with the idea that we would post something like "powered by IBM" or "Powered by Sun" on our pages. Both have failed.
So, now it would seem like the next step is to do a fund raiser and buy our own server. But! I think it would be neat if we could find a vendor of reliable products that would be willing to give us one or would be willing to consider giving us a discount for some form of mention.
Keep in mind that what we need will be a rack mount system running Linux.
So! Let's design a system and start fleshing out some possible vendors ...

If only you had told me earlier. I work for a hosting company and they were selling away used E450's and E250s for as cheap as $200 and $300. I got myself a Compaq Proliant 3800 for $300.

So why didn't you take one of those E450's? You could've used it as a dining room table

Maybe egenera would be worth a try for sponsership, in exchange for advertising...
Or you can offer a "burn-in" service.
