Are you confused about how to use web services in J2EE or where to use web services (instead of some other technology)?
For the "how", the best source is a book (J2EE Web Services looks great, for example, and this week's promotion book is promising as well) or The Java Web Services Tutorial.
For the "where", the sample application which can be found from Java Blueprints & Web Services should be an OK example.
