Is there an inherent problem with creating SOAP messages from within an applet? There seems to be a class loader problem. I've a very simple example. Essentially, it's an applet that does this:
MessageFactor mf = new MessageFactory.newInstance();
SOAPMessage message = mf.createMessage();
message.saveChanges();
If I try running this (via the appletviewer), it crashes at the saveChanges() line with this message:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
at java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method)
at java.lang.Class.forName(Unknown Source)
Now, if I put my applet class and all the SOAP class files into a single jar file AND put that out in <java_home>/jre/lib/ext/, then it works. Otherwise not. Obviously a big problem - I can't go moving jar files into client directories when the applet runs.
Any ideas? I'm stumped.
Thanks in advance,
- Pete

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
