use of XML in the webservices

Hi,

I am Systems Analyst working for level 5 company,actually i have

never come across much of XML in my projects, but i have developed some build.xml for the antscripts.i like to know wat is the role of the xml in the webservices???
dear author ,pls provide me a brief vision of it...
i can rate myself in xml as 6/10..

XML plays a very important role in Web Services. Communication in Web Services takes place by passing the messages in XML format. I suggest you to read Web Service tutorial.

Yes, XML is the sole data representation format used by all Web Services standards. On an even more fundamental level, SOAs are built on foundation XML architectures that establish a standardized layer for data transport throughout application environments. When we talk about XML architectures, though, we are also including other core XML standards, such as XML Schema, XSLT, and XPath. On a side note: WSDL and pretty much all of the other Web Services specifications are actually written using XML.

There is an online version of J2EE Web Services by Richard Monson at Safari... But I think that will be limited to 14 days or something... I would suggest you to check out the Safari to get more info...

That book is the best for studying XML and Web Service together...
