Hi,

What is the difference between a web agent and a web service ?
Are they the same thing ?

Razvan

Hi,

If nobody has time for this trivial issue perhaps somebody can pinpoint me to a site where I can find out the answer by myself. I tried in vain to find a definition for "web agent" on Google and on some sites that have an "IT dictionary". Any clue ?

Regards,
Razvan

Not sure if it is a question of time. I have never heard of a "web agent". Where did you get the word?

Hi William,

Please search google for all the documents that have the words "web agent" in the title:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=allintitle%3A%22web+agent%22&btnG=Search

You will find 1890 documents.

As for me, I saw this term in a XML mock test somewhere on the web - but right now I don't remember exactly where.

Razvan

Well it appears to be different things to different people. I would think of it as a "bot", or "spider". Something which goes onto the internet with a specific task. The most common example being how search engines find your web page. There appear to be other definitions though.

That means that a 'Web Agent' is not on a web server (like a 'Web Service'). It is a client technology that interacts with web servers in order to do data mining of some sort.
