You left out the most important result of that list - "Standardization" - which should make it possible for any SOAP server to publish a WSDL and be used by any client on the net with no further problem.

One of the comments on the SOAP is Dead link mentions "the REST API"!?
Hello? I thought REST was a vaguely defined philosophy - now it has an API??
