Web Services Help

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi

I am absolutely new at web services, but still i have a basic theoretical idea [ so please ignore my stupidity ].

My Problem.....

I have deployed JBoss Server on my system. To understand web services i want to develop a simple VB application which takes two numbers and gives the sum of the numbers by sending the operands to the server and recieving the result, using web services. Once this is done, based on my understanding i will later get involved in sending database queries to the server, recieving replies [ i understand it will be in xml format ] and interpreting those replies again using web services.

Please help me. I have following questions....
1. Can this be done by me if i know vb/jsp/javascript/xml/html fairly enough?
2. If No, ( what more do i need to know )?
3. If Yes, kindly help me understand what needs to be done in a step by step manner?

Thankyou very much

Hi
I do not know about vb 6.0 and former , but when you come in .net , visual studio provide enough *Wizard* for you to import and use a web service.

lets look at service side , first i should tell you, if you are new commer then select an IDE and use your IDE features to develop and deploy web services.
also you need to know some java programming and sure JDBC ,...

for example , if you get netbeans 5 which can develop and deploy web services on sjas you can create your web service in a wizard like manner.
http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/download.php?a=n&p=1

i assume you get netbeans 5 and now you want to build and deploy your web service. take a look at :
http://www.netbeans.org/kb/50/quickstart-webservice.html
here you will find out how and which steps are required for you to build the web service and deploy it on sjas.

now , let me see how much i remember from vs.net , in case that you want to use .net version of vb.

-create a windows application
-in solution explorer look for some web resource ?
-right click and select import web service ?

really i do not remember any more ) , and i can not be sure that the above steps are correct for vs.
