WebLogic vs. Monson-Haefel

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
I am studying the Monsol-Haefel book and trying out some simple examples in practise with WebLogic 8.1. At the same time I am reading the WL tutorials (Programming Web Services), and creating Web Services in that tutorial seems completely different from what M-H book describes. I think I am a bit confused with the big picture. For example chapters 10, 11, 12: Jax-RPC end points, EJB end points, Client APIs...does M-H book describe the proper way to do things according to the standard, and WebLogic use it's own bastarded nonstandard way (would not surprise me) or what is going on?

For example, I am trying to access a simple web service from inside J2EE container. M-H describes the process along the lines of:

For the life of me I cannot seem to find the jndi enc name the web service I should use. M-H talks about assigning JNDI name using a service reference element at deployment time, there's no such process with WL, just a bunch of confusing magical ant tasks that nicely prepare the web service for you, but I have no idea of what is actually going on under the hood.

WL docs recommend approach like

and sure enough it works, but directly accessing the implementation classes (TaderService_Impl) seems just bad, and I would like to test the M-H approach.

Anyone care to shed some light to this issue, WL 8.1 approach vs. M-H book?

Weblogic 8.1 only complies with EJB 2.0 and the Java Servlet 2.3 Specification. The <service-ref> descriptor was introduced in EJB 2.1 to the ejb-jar.xml and in Servlet 2.4 to the web.xml.
