EJB/Bean mapping question

I was looking at standard samples shipped with Axis and noticed that in deploy.wsdd there was a mapping provided for one NiceThingsBean:

I looked at the corrosponding code for class NiceThings which did not conform to a JavaBean no arg constructor. This class is used internally by the EJB deployed.

My question is, does a web service provide enough flexibility to provide a beanmapping for a class which does not conform to JavaBean standards? Is the class good enough even if it has just defined getter/setter methods?
