Portable J2EE 1.4 Web Services

(A re-phrasing of my recent posting that will hopefully facilitate a few more comments this time!)

I need to build and package a portable J2EE application that includes web services (both clients and services). I would like to be able to create a single .ear file that can be deployed on any of the major Application Server platforms (WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, Oracle, Sun).

Has anyone out there achieved this, and if so what high level approach was used?

Another option that wasn't mentioned in the previous
thread is to simply wait until all server platforms support JSE 6 which includes web service support by default.

That however will take years - so it's not really a feasible solution.
