Hello,

I am developing an application where user enters his details and a pdf form is generated on the fly.To view the form, user has to pay for it.He needs to enter his credit card details and authorization should be done there itself so that he can proceed further. The application is in jsp.

Does your book covers examples of this sort? Also the knowledge of web services is necessary to use these examples?

Thanks.

Yes, PayPal has an API for this and Java samples are provided in chapter 6. The API is called DoDirectPayment, and it's included with PayPal's Website Payments Pro package. The fee for this is $20 a month and is available only in US and UK. The one rule is that you must also offer the buyer the ability to pay with their PayPal account. If you don't want to integrate the PayPal payment option, you can sign up for the Payflow Gateway product, which has a different fee structure but allows you to just accept credit cards directly on your website, and authorize them with an API call.

Why is this restricted to only US and UK ?
If I want to shop something from a e-commerce application and having a credit card then that should be fine. And if I am planning to make a e-commerce application for indian users those who have a credit card then also it should be fine.

Is expert knowledge of web services required for developers implementing paypal in e-commerce application ?

You can use a credit card from many countries, but the business/seller must be US or UK. It's because those are the only two countries where we have released Website Payments Pro. For other countries, the Website Payments Standard solution is available to process credit cards.

Expert knowledge of web services is not required, you can use a PayPal SDK to handle all the SOAP stuff.
