Hi all,
In the web services forum, I read that sun is starting web services developer exam. check it out here..
The beta exam would open up in APril. So is the ranch planning for the new forum for this certification? If not, it should be there as early as possible, so that we can discuss what to/not to expect in the beta exam....

Anybody know who is writing the exam?
Any bartenders or sheriffs want to run point on getting such a forum up to speed?
What is the interest level in taking this exam?

Can anybody please look into this? I am really surprised that none of the moderators have replied back, if there is going to be a forum for SCWSD or not?
SCJWSD Beta Exam (Sun certified Web services developer) is announced and would be available from April 29 to May 23, 2004. See here for more information. So new forum needs to be set up before that beta, the way SCBCD forum was set up.
Can anybody please look into this???

Yikees! Sorry folks, I just don't come to this forum often enough to have seen this one. The Web Services exam hasn't even been created yet -- but we'll be building it in early April. Although we do have a rough draft of the exam objectives now, but there wouldn't be anything exam-related to talk about until the actual exam development is complete. Usually, we start up a new cert forum when the questions have been completed and evaluated by the third-party psychometricians, and we have scheduled the beta exam.
Until then, the best way to prepare is with the regular Web Services forum. I do know that one of the ways in which this exam is unique is that there are going to be questions related to architecture and design even though it is a "Web Services Developer" exam, because all of our research for this exam indicated that right now -- everyone's doing everything.
This was by FAR the most difficult topic from which to come up with objectives. We have lots of industry experts and people who have developed the specs, the J2EE blueprint folks, etc. and there have been MAJOR battles raging. This is a challenging topic that is still very dynamic. But that should make for an exciting exam! Richard Monson-Haefel has taken on a lead role, and fellow javaranch bartender Max Habibi is also heavily involved now and will be one of the exam creators.
(He wrote the most-excellent book for the SCJD exam).
Bert and I are also on the team, but in a minor role and more as *exam* development experts and not Web Services Subject Matter Experts. We're there just to help the *real* experts create good questions, so we won't be of that much help from a technical perspective. But you can expect that Max will be there to help and we'll prepare mock exam materials and other things to try to help you during the beta.
So, I don't know when the new forum will appear, but I wouldn't expect it for at least a few more weeks.
Cheers,
Kathy

thanks a lot Kathy for the reply. this clears lot of confusion abt the exam and the forum.
so to start with the beta, the only preparation could include reading EVERYTHING abt web services, SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI. Therefore, i am doing the same thing.
Once the actual beta exam set up, please provide us with mock exam questions so that it gives the general idea abt the kind of questions expected in exam.
Thanks once again!

Max does much too good a job at hiding his light under a bushel.
Max and Lasse.
Lasse did a valiant job of answering / fielding questions in the Web Services forum right through. It does seem to have a very broad scope though. Good luck guys. We'll be there to pick the pieces up.

Those of you who are SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) or have participated in the Blueprint Survey have had the chance to get a glance at a first draft of the objectives. I have made up a document with all those objectives and I will post it as soon as the Web Services Certification forum is up.
As Kathy said, it's gonna take a couple more weeks
