Javaranch rocks so hard!! I recently had to ask a question on one of Sun's forums because they have a forum for JSF. The answer I got back... "Read the Specification..." What kind of an answer is that? I did that already anyway. I am usually pretty good about trying to find the answer myself before asking a question anyway. So I went ahead and searched the forums, AGAIN, for a similar problem. Oh there are a few. And for the most part people are answering with... "You can't do it that way." or "That isn't possible" It's like they don't even want to help. Oh well. What are you gonna do, right?
JavaRanch is great because of the people. There are a lot of really smart folks who hang out here, and they're very generous with their time and expertise. There are also a lot of decent folk who work hard keeping this place running, and take a lot of pride in the kind of place it is. And then there's you and me. Somehow, we're lucky enough to be involved in all this.
There's a lot of friendly people on the Sun forums as well but there's indeed a very vocal group that acts like you describe. They probably consider themselves too good to really help people, mainly being there to show off their knowledge to each other
