Hi

We are planning to use Axis2 for developing web application. Going through the installation guide of Axis2, i found that it can be installed as a standalone server and inside tomcat. Can someone please tell me when should Axis2 be deployed inside tomcat and when as a standalone server? Is there any advantage of using one over the other?

As a rule these stand-alone server configurations are good enough for "playing around" and proof-of-concepts. However even Tomcat isn't technically a web server, it's a servlet container. In a production environment you are supposed to have a hardened Apache HTTP Server up front which then delegates requests to one or more servlet containers.

If you are already doing "web applications" and have a deployment and maintenance strategy in place then it makes sense to deploy Axis2 in one of your servlet containers. If you want to dispense with the servlet container then you should consider deploying Axis2 in the Apache HTTP Server Version 2.x with mod_axis2.
