I have an server/clients solution build in javaSE. The server provides methods exposed via rmi for searching in a database. I would like to make the methods I have in rmi today and make them available through a webservice. Is there any way of exposing webservices in a SE application? I know I can add an embedded application server like jboss but it seems like overkill for a simple search api with a few methods.

Any ideas?

Java SE 6 comes with the com.sun.net.httpserver.HttpServer that is used to run web services as shown in this topic. Both the JAX-WS reference implementation and the Jersey distribution seem to contain a http.jar that contains HttpServer which can be used in combination with Java SE 5. In a production environment Jetty + JAX-WS may actually be a better idea.
