Will J2ME be able to fancy its chances over Java2 Standard Edition/Enterprise Edition? Let's have debate over it.

Not sure what you mean. All three editions are officially supported by Sun and aimed at different audiences and serve different needs.

Gangan , there seems to be some confusion , I think. Sun has distinctively devided Java in three areas.
1 ) j2se : - Java Standard Edition , which you use on your pc .
2 ) j2ee : - Java Enterprise editon ( name itself suggests ,for enterprise applications i.e. ejbs)
3 ) j2me : - Java Micro Edition ( For Devices , cldc , cdc depending upon the memory requiremens )
There are clear purpose behind development of each edition. Standard & Micro are not comparable only , becuase the purpose is differnt. Each one will serve its own purpose.
I hope I have not misunderstood your question.
I hope this will be helpful.
SHAILESH.
