messenger service with interoperability with other IMs  RSS feed

could someone plz tell me how is it possible to develop a messenger sevvice with j2me having the capability to login into various messengers like MSN,Yahoo,ICQ....
jabber,trillian,.....allow this interoperability acting as middleware
how else is this possible
with jabber how is it done?
will JMS be helpful?
plz give a stepwise guideline to this.

You can have your own gateway servlets that use Jabber/JMS/whatever to interact with IM services on behalf of your j2me device. Have a look at my article on JavaWorld:

It talks about "database powered" applications. But the basic idea applies to any J2EE backend powered application.
