What's an OTA server? I only know OTA to mean over-the-air, but that's a description, not a server. Can you give me a link?

OTA server is a server to support dynamic discovery, user authentication, download and billing of distrubuting mobile applications. It is usually set up by a wireless carrier to provide services to devices on its network. Application developers then upload their JAD/JAR files to the server for users to download.
As you can see, it is a very complex business and is carrier dependent (how to resolve IP? download over HTTP or WAP?). So, it is normally set up by wireless carriers rather than individuals.

Oh, I forgot to say: If your OTA server does not need to handle infrustructure issues and you assume the wireless can get to your server through HTTP somehow. You only need to put up a HTML link to the JAD file. You user will click on that link and if her wireless browser is correctly configured, she will start downloading automatically.
In case, a web server is all that you need.

Michael, what I mean is there's no formal OTA standard, right? It's a term like "web server." I couldn't tell you how to set up a web server. I can tell you how to set up an Apache web server, or a BEA web server, etc, but not a general "web server."
