I am new to J2ME, wireless. My immediate concern is getting started. What are the best development environments, software development kits? I am well versed in JAVA, I need recommendations regarding coding J2ME, wireless applications.

All you need for starting out is the J2ME Wireless Toolkit and your favourite text editor. You can get the J2ME Wireless Toolkit from
http://java.sun.com/products/j2mewtoolkit/
As you develop, it's also a good idea to test on different emulators (and real devices if you have them). There are free emulators available for download from Motorola, Nokia, Siemens, and RIM.
