Hello,
I bought the first j2me book out in my area:
Mobile Information Device Profile for Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME): Professional Developer's Guide
by C. Enrique Ortiz, Eric Giguere
And would not recommend it. So you can rule that one out anyhow.

I bought 2 J2ME books from sams publishing...

by Yu Feng, Jun Zhu
2. Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) Application Development by Michael Kroll, Stefan Haustein
Both are good.

Can you tell us why? That book provides some very useful tips, especially for enterprise developers.
You can check out this book review I wrote a while ago on 6 J2ME books.
A lot of new things have happened especially after MIDP 2.0 spec comes out. Most of those books will have a MIDP 2.0 revision.
For MIDP 2.0 books, I know Jonathan Knudsen's Wireless Java (from APress) should come in Q1-Q2 2003. That is a decent book.
