I just finished a MIDlet, that the user would enter Job Number, region and CC Number, the HandHeld device then connects to my Web Server and a Servlet that will connect to Oracle do a search based on the input and return a String with the results. This then was displayed in an Alert on the HandHeld.
So it worked great on the Emulator. Since my Webserver is only on my local machine, I have to stick witht he emulators for now.
I am just excited that I did this. I started reading Jonathan Knudsen's Wireless Java book, and got what I needed from there.
I'm hooked now.

it's even cooler when you run the darn thing on an actual cellphone.
i run mine on an motorola i50 and i95cl after testing in an emulator. i can also run it on my palm.
ah!!! the joys of MIDP programming!

Speaking about Jonathan Knudsen's book. Make sure that you get the second edition which has a lot more content and includes MIDP v2.0. This is the first MIDP MIDP 2 book I know of. I mention that becuase I did technical review for that book and absolutley liked it.

Yep your name is right there. And in the Acknowledgement section as the Excellent Technical Reviewer.
That's the book I got. Of course I got it to review for our Bunkhouse.
The only problem is I got so excited to start programming it, that I am now using it as reference, when I still have a few chapters left to read. I need to read it all. I am hoping to find out more about the ability to make custom screens that are pretty. Right now my first screens are very basic.
