J2ME communication with a computer

Hi,
I am new to J2ME. I was wondering if it is possible for a PDA (running Palm OS) to communicate with a computer through a serial cable or USB (instead of wireless). If it is possible, can it be done with a software running on the PDA or on the computer.
I would appreciate any resources/pointers (URL) on this.
