Writing J2ME Applications for Palm Pilot/Visor

I am interested in developing Java applications for my Handspring Visor (a PalmOS device). I have downloaded the Waba Virtual Machine, and it looks like it works, but I've recently heard that Sun is pushing the J2ME for this type of thing.
Here are my questions:

Is it possible to develop Java Apps for the PalmOS using the J2ME?

My handspring uses PalmOS v3.1H2. If J2ME can develop apps for the Palm, does the PalmOS have to have a particular version?

Is Waba still a big thing? The version of the WabaVM I downloaded from http://www.wabasoft.com was dated year 2000.

I am just starting to explore J2ME myself. I think it would probably be best for you to move on to this technology since it looks like Wabba uses the out-dated Java 1.1 API. (Sun has released version 1.4). If you are interested in details about using J2ME for Palm, this message board has several recent threads that can show you how to get started.
