As you are a J2ME author, I'm interested in your opinion for game developers? Are we better off targeting PDAs or cell phones? In this case, I suspect that the device characteristics are sufficiently different that trying for both doesn't make much sense...
Thanks,
Burk

In general, cell phones run MIDP while PDAs run Personal Profile. You can write very different kinds of applications for MIDP and Personal Profile, and thus very different kinds of games.
In the near term, I would go for the cell phone MIDP market as it is the largest and most active.

Cell phones... OK. I think I can do that.
But, once I finish I still have to get it to the public. I remember a couple of JaAvaOne's ago they were talking about having something like an online vending machine where users can go to download nifty applications.
Are they out there, and if so, can/will you recommend any? Or, perhaps, point me in the right direction to search for myself.
Thanks,
Burk

Let's see, Handango is one name. There are others. Unfortunately I'm not very familiar with the marketplace, but the stories I hear lead me to believe that it's a little tricky to navigate. Actually bringing your application to market is a tap dance between carriers, middlemen, and sometimes manufacturers. Maybe someone who's done this can comment?

IMHO Motorola will market J2ME apps after it passes some verification tests.

George,
Any idea on fees charged for verification?

Anybody else know about getting an app to market?
