Hi,
I have unsuccesfully been looking for some APIs, allowing one to initiate a phone call from a J2ME application. I think that there is no such API in the J2ME specs. Could anyone tell me if there is any vendor specific APIs allowing this?
I don't think Nokia provides such API.
I have been told that I should use C++ instead. Is it possible to interface to C++ programs from a J2ME midlet, which API's are used to do that?
Answers on this will be welcome.
I am using some Nokia series 60 phone (at the moment)..

In MIDP v2.0, the API call

does this for you. However, MIDP v2.0 is only supported in the newest S60 devices (6600 from the Nokia Developer Platform v2.0). So, it probably does not help you now.
As for you other question: no, MIDP does not allow user defined native methods. So, you cannot interface with the Symbian C++ API without vendor support. For older Series 80 phones (Nokia Communicator 92xx), you can use PersonalJava to do native calls.
I guess this does not help you to solve the current problem. But this is how things are at this moment.

Hi Hakim,

you can try the same command on a Siemens Series 65 phonewhich supports MIDP2.0 and CLDC1.1(Cx65,S65,C65 etc)
They have some public emulators in their site. Not sure whether this particular problem can be tried out.

Thanks
