Hi, does anyone has ideas about how a personaljava application could get the data received by the gps add-on unit

I believe you have to resort to using proprietary APIs since your cell phone is probably not implementing the Location API, yet. I would start by reading the vendor documentation about any available programming interfaces.

If your device provides serial port access API to your Java applications, you can read the GPS data and parse them inside your app yourself. Check out this series of tutorials from IBM developerworks.
