I'm looking for a development, prototyping, learning tool for J2ME and MIDP 2.0 -- but for Mac OS !! I'd like to use it to "tune up" for the certification test...
At JavaOne 2003, I attended the hands-on session using the Sun J2ME emulator. Since then, I've downloaded the PC version and experimented with it. I've also read Programming Wireless Devices with the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition, Second Edition, and I find the graphical programming api's very interesting, and refreshing in comparison to the programming model of Swing. I don't mean to be critical of Swing, but I like a "closer to the metal" approach to graphics and UIs, and the MIDP 2.0 ui options are similar to api's I used before Java/AWT/Swing.
However, I don't normally use a PC. I use a Mac Powerbook laptop, perfectly capable of running current Java software. To my knowledge, there is still no version of MIDP 2.0 based emulators that work on Mac OS X. There is a version for pre-MIDP 2.0 for the Mac, but I'd rather learn/study with the up-to-date version.
If you have comments on the state of J2ME and MIDP 2.0 tools in general, feel free to add those here also. Also, if you have current info on the J2ME pre MIDP 2.0 emulator for Mac OS, post that here too.
Thanks for the help locating a version that will let me do MIDP 2.0 work on a Mac.
Thanks,
Alan Carwile
