I developped a J2ME application that connect to server HTTP.
I have SX1 Siemens (Serial 60) to test my application J2ME.
What do I need to configure my mobile to work in USA(Floride). I have a french subscription (GSM-GPRS).
Thank you for your help.
I think all u need to do is change the access point to the current provider and u should be set ...
There should be no problem to connect to any server in the world ...
from personal experience .. i was using my TMOBILE sim card in France and only had to change the access point to the URL of Orange for the GPRS to work .
I didnt play with GPRS there but i guess all i had to do was change my connection settings to the ones that Air Tel uses ( Access point, Username , password etc.)
I guess .. thats all u have to do .. check the carrier that ur sim is pickin up .. call the customer support of that carrier .. have them send u the connection settings OTA or just enter them manually.
Accessing the WWW from ur phone shouldnt be a problem whereever u go .. right ??? ... cause u only use GPRS to communicate with the carrier gateway .. and then the gateway in turn routes ur request thro internet ... so all u need is to access ur local gateway ..
Am i right ??? ...

Ok, Thanks. But I guess the question is: If you take your T-Mobile phone to China, can you still get GPRS data service there on that phone without changing the SIM card? Do you need to re-config the phone with a new GPRS access point?
Of course, answers are NO, then YES. I switched to a Chinese sim card, reconfigure my cellphone, then I can use it to communicate with my server in China and US. You need to go through the gateway to get to the Internet, then you can go anywhere you want, and also are "allowed" to go. Michael, you know what I mean, don't you?
You are exactly correct.

Sorry not to reply before. Now I can reply because I could test my application J2ME to a Floride. I have response elements: We bring to Floride two mobiles the SX1 of Siemens and the P400 of Samsung.
We could realize a Connection HTTP with my Application J2ME to Server located in France. But we couldn't with my P400. By now i don't know why. I Would say too. In France the both mobile work very well. I used the operator: Orange and SFR of France. But I don't know What operator in USA we connected in USA.
When I will have other responses I email you.

Thank you for your notice.
I thank to everyone for your contribution to resolve my probleme.
I would like say THIS: The discussion was very interesting.
I would like JUST do a general notice:
-I didn't need to change my french sim card to a USA sim card. My application J2ME on SX1 worked well without any new configuration. It is not the same for Punit Raizada : He switched to a Chinese sim card, reconfigure his cellphone. I thank him for this information.
Michael: I checked the P400 configuration. It seems that the same like SX1's configuration. At the end of october I will return in USA with 10 mobile. I Will know more.
