Hi, im relativly new to Java and J2ME but have been set the task of designing an application in J2ME.
The application is to do with navigation around a building
It involves the phone user entering where they are (possibly from a dropdown) and selecting their destination
eg a House example, im in the bedroom looking for the kitchen? You see what i mean?!
Once this is entered the program will return a map with directions of the route.
My question is quite broad but i guess what im asking is how is the best way of going about the task, what will i need? complexity, im just after as much help as your willing to give me.
Thankyou for reading and i hope you can help

Cool task
Here are the problems (questions and answers) I would tackle first.

Decide what are the target devices then keep in mind their limitations when

Is it a client - server or does it need to work as a stand alone application.
If it is a client - server, how should the work be distributed.
For example the client can connect to the server get the map of the building then handle path finding and visualization locally. Another way is to request from the server to find the path between two endpoints and handle only visualization in the client.

Next question is how do you handle visualization - textural descriptions / 2D maps / 3D maps.

Find out what APIs, libraries are available; decide what to use; make some tests to see how it works / looks in practice. And so on...
