connecting MIDlet to database?

Do anyone here knows and can give me example how to connect MIDP to back-end database ? one of my colleagues told me that we don't need to connect through server to access the database. Please give me some feedbacks

Well you can't really use JDBC sine the ResultSet is not part of J2ME. THere are some third party tools out there like PointBase has to connecting, but that costs lots of money.

Personally I know that I can only deal with Strings on a J2ME device, so I create a Servlet to receive the request from the J2ME device, which then calls a Plain Old Java Object to use JDBC and connect to the database make my query, format the results into a String and pass it back to the device.

answer to all ur questions lie in Servlet and JDBC . I think u should see certain servlet pdfs and ull be clear as to wat u need to do
