HTTP wireless connection hangs

I have a midlet that runs on a MIDP 1.0 cell phone and uses HTTP connection to send information over a wireless network to a central server.

Occasionally this process hangs: the data never makes it to the server and the thread sending the data never finishes.

I am guessing the wireless network is not available when this happens.

Has anybody else encountered this?

If so, any suggestions for handling it?

I was thinking I could try to send the data again at a later time, but I also don't know what to tell the user when this happens.

Also, is there any way to know for sure that a wireless network is unavailable?

Not much help here, but that is why everyone highly suggests that your run connections in a seperate thread than the MIDlet thread.
