I have got some problems deploying a midlet project with eclipseME. The application is running fine when running in eclipse, but I am not able to deploy it and run it on my mobile device.

The error message when starting on my device is:

"Invalid application"

I think I need to configure the .jad file, but I do not know what to do.

This happens if Your device is a MIDP 1.0-CLDC 1.0 application and You want to run a MIDP 2.0 - CLDC 1.1 app.

I ran into the same issue; just have a look at the example applications provided with the Sun WTK, and configure your settings in the jad file (in the project root folder) alike.
