Is it possible to automatically select a GPRS setting from inside my midlet to connect to the internet.

Also, is there a way of avoiding the question the mobile phones asks: "Do you want to allow this applciation to connect to the internet"?

These things can be annoying. Any idea?

The MIDlet cannot control that kind of settings, at least using MIDP 2.

Maybe when MIDP 3 comes around ... but it is still in draft stage - http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=271

The MIDP 3 expert group is apparently working on
"multiple network interfaces per device" which maybe implies
that the MIDlet will have some control or choice over these.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
