Hi all,
Can we connect the mobile to a printer using a data cable and do printing from a J2ME application?

Data cable has a serial connector at the mobile end and a USB connector at the printer end.

If there is no current solution to this type of connection, then how can we make it possible. what all we need to develop to get this connection working?

Well, your first problem is that there's no such thing as "the mobile". There are lots of different mobiles. One mobile I use has a mini-usb jack on it. Another has some sort of proprietary Nokia connector on it.

So first you have to find out what the capabilities of your mobile are. Then you have to find an API that can address them. In the case of my USB connector, it's a client connector, not a host connector, so I'd have to insert some sort of intelligent mediating device between me and the printer.

Mobile devices come with a lot of different capabilities. I think I read recently about one or two that could do print requests using their infrared connections.

I think it's not a easy job.
The printer should support such funtion and provided API

Your requirements should be complex to handle.

Anyway, the MIDP connection type to use with serial ports is CommConnection.
