Hi! I'm trying to do a text search(like search the user typed name in the contact list). I realized that there is no string.matches(String regex) method avilable. Why is that?

J2ME was designed back when the available memory on devices was typically much less than today's average, so their package set omits less-popular functions.

You can probably find a third-party regex package. The jakarta Oro package is one such, although I don't know if it can be used with J2ME.
