I'm pretty sure that stop() has been deprecated in 1.2. Instead, you are responsible for telling your own thread to stop.

stop() is deprecated..
so now there are yield(),suspend(),sleep,wait().

Isn't suspend() deprecated ?

yup, suspend is deprecated
you've got to make the run() method return on its own, some way, to stop the thread
