What are the official (SCJP) states of a thread? One source (Core Java 1.1) says New, Runnable, Blocked, and Dead, but at least one prep author (Jaworski) says Ready, Running, Waiting, and Dead. The tutorial says Blocked instead of Not Runnable. Aaarrgh. Is there a definitive document with a state diagram anywhere that shows which methods cause transitions to which states? Is there even an official answer?
When I first started Jaworski I thought the book was great, but the last couple of chapters have had problems even a greenhorn can recognize.
