I am writing code that will provide an abstraction between an SMS Gateway interface and a back-end message manipulator. The abstraction should be able to deal with multiple SMS Gateway vendors (with various API's). My strategy is to write one piece of code that will spawn the correct process to deal with a particular vendor's interface. For instance, if the class is run with the interpreter from the command line, a switch would determine which process (corresponding to the vendor specified on the command line switch) would be spawned from the abstraction process. How does one spawn a process from an initial process?

AFAIK, either use Runtime.exec(...) or write a native facade and use JNI.

Consider Paul's rocket mass heater.
