flush() method

Hi,
Could someone explain what is these method for, the API is not so clear for me.

A flush invocation, sends everything down the wire if not done already, i.e. when you have finished writing to an output stream you'd like the written content to be "sent" and that's what flush does. Think about what happens when you go to the bathroom and flush
