I want to write a program which simulate trains movingon the railway and even stoping in stations. The must be able to sense one another. I believe that threads can do this but have failed in many ways.

I don't think this is a threads question. It's more of a question of program design. And it sounds an awful lot like a similar assignment I had in my Object Oriented Programming course. We'd be glad to help you with specific questions about design or implementation, but we won't provide you with source code. So ask away.
