Hi Henry,
I'm just curious to know what are inside the appendix? It is titled as "Superseded Threading Utilities". Does it mean that the chapter will contain some small utility applications that are ready-made for the readers? Or something else?

Thanks...

The third edition is practically a total rewrite -- a huge chunk of the book was thrown out, because JDK 1.5 replaced many of the utilities we wrote for the eariler edition.

All the important, useful, but superceded utilities were move to the appendix. It serves two purposes. First, those using Java prior to JDK 1.5 can use the tools. And second, since the tools were written as a learning tool, instead of an optimized, feature laden tools, it can be used as a reference.

It is amazing how the talk moved completely to JDK 1.5 after the release. I can agree with the fact it is maybe one of the most important changes happened to Java since Java 1.2, but I think that the companies shift to it (J2SE5.0) will not be as soon as the discussion .
IMO it is important to understand that the existing solutions are not switched to newer versions just immediately (in fact I know a fea still working with 1.1.7 ).
