As far as I know. Usually it is not allowed to new a Thread in Web container?

Then which class could I use to replace java.lang.Thread in Web container?

Thanks and Rgds

What I am try to do is

in a Servlet to spawn a thread which will execute a task costing about 15 mins).

So I need spawn a thread to execute this time consuming task.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, what are you trying to do in a web container that requires multiple threads?

This can be container specific. WAS for ex supports Async Beans (thread pools). But you will be using app server specific stuff so if possible hide them behind a layer of your own.
