public class exception
2 {
3 public static void main(String args[])
4 {
5 System.out.println("A");
6 try
7 {
8 return;
9 }
10 catch(Exception e)
11 {
12 System.out.println("B");
13 }
14 System.out.println("C");
15 }
16 }
It does compile?
The explanation from the answer isnt sufficient..
If the return stmt is just before System.out.println("c") it wouldn't compile..(This is clear to me since the stmt is unreachable...)
can some help me to clarify it please?

It does compile.
main is called. A is printed. Then the main method exits via the return statement and the program is ended.

If you comment out the return statement and uncomment the throw new Exception() ; statement, you will see
A
B
C

A is printed, same as before.
Exception is thrown and caught by catch statement
B is printed.
Then, since the exception was caught, the program continues and C is printed.

All,
This seems to be a nasty problem for SUN to fix. They can
not decide whether they should fix JLS first or compiler.
See this bug report. http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4046575.html
