how can i create a server socket on the clients machine using an applet?how can get rid of the security exceptions?

Have a look <A HREF="http://homepages.unl.ac.uk/~wrightc/tyj/Comms.htm#ChatClient">here</A>. It's a simple example to get you started. If you're doing regular sockets, then security shouldn't be a problem as long as the applet makes the connection to the server (on the same machine that served up the applet in the first place) and not the other way around.
