when i try to post a post with html tags in it, it gives me an error saying
Sorry, your post appears to have an illegal HTML tag. Often this is because the post contains a < character instead of the equivalent HTML escape sequence & lt;

i replaced all the < characters with &It; and it still gave me the same error. What is going on, and how can i fix it. Thanks in advance- Dan

Dan,
You also have to replace > with >

Hmmmm - I don't think so. > should not normally be a problem, I think. But I'm not sure. Dan - e-mail me the text you want to post (to jim at javaranch dot com), and I'll see if I can figure out what's up.

usually that error is generated when you try to post HTML inside a code block and the HMTL contains Javascript.

The anti-hacking script doesn't recognise that the code will be displayed as text and not HTML and therefore rendered harmless.

You can always use the link on top of the JS forum: http://www10.brinkster.com/a1ien51/JavaRanch/Escaper.htm

it will solve your problem.

I thought I had a problem posting a <tag> once. But clearly it works now, so I must have been remembering wrong.

This forum allows HTML; most others here do not. The behavior can be different in each case (though I forget just how it works).
