How does the RHE compare to the Proper Sun exam?
I've almost read the book twice now, and can answer all the question in it. However having done several mocks on the web, including Val's, I seem to be getting rather feeble results! I've got my test on the 27th, and am getting increasingly worried by the day........
Any advice?
Rowan.

Hi,
I too, am studying for my SCJP. I've been on Javaranch for about a month now and from what I've seen and heard is, RHE teaches you what you need to pass. The basics of Java. As far as the best book to become a Master Java Programmer, I would drop it and pick up Khalid Mughal. (My opinion)
The tests in the back do seem a bit easy, and I'm not 100% sure how it relates to the real test, so I'm taking the precautions by taking online exams.
I would go and check the mock list at www.javaranch.com/mock.jsp,
and then I recommend taking tests that are said to be similiar or harder than the real exam. That way, when you do good on those, you will know that you should do good on the real exam.
Recommended Exams (by me that is):
Marcus Green 1 - 3 (save one till your almost ready)
Mughal exam - Harder than real exam (so it claims)
Javaranch Rules Roundup- easy exam to brush up Language Fundementals
Brogden's exam - good exam made by author of Exam Cram. (also take his Hardest Questions test)
Jxam - highly accepted mock (even by this greenhorn)
well hope this helps. If not, just wait until a ranch hand or Val shows up to help.
Happy trails
Travis B.

Cheers Travis!
Makes sense, I may have to invest in that Khalid Mughal book!

Hey Travis,
2 posts to go and you are going to be a ranch hand, too
Rowan,
I would recommend you take as many mocks as you can until March 27th. Only that way you can be ready. Also, you should try to code some small applications for the areas where you still have problems... And don't hesitate to come by the Ranch and ask some questions.
