Nested lists in posts

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hey All,

Is it possible to have nested lists in posts to the boards on JavaRanch?
I tried in this thread but it didn't work.

Did I do it wrong? Or are nested lists just not supported?

Michal

Hi Michal,

I have to test this first to see if it works (I went through this over a year ago, and haven't used it since):
  • Item 1 in the list
  • Item 2 in the list
  • Item 2a
  • Item 2b
  • Item 2b.1
  • Item 2b.2
  • Item 2c
  • Item 3

  • Now to hit the reply button and see if it worked.

    Regards, Andrew

    Hi Michal,

As you can see, nested lists are possible. The UBB I used to create that was:

The first level is created by having the first set of [*] outside any [list] tags. The second level is inside [list] tags. The third level is inside an ordered [list=1] tag.

So much for the good news - now the bad news. From memory, UBB (the forum software we are currently running on) does not really like doing these sorts of nested lists, and sometimes trying to create them fails in strange and unexpected ways - you may have to play around with your post a bit to get it right if you really want nested lists.

The new forum software seems to be much better at this.

    Regards, Andrew

As is nicely demonstrated by the alignment of Item 2c in the example.
I found a beautiful pie. And a tiny ad:
